Shamhat’s Secret, NaPoWriMo day 10

Spring, by Rick Mobbs
Shamhat’s Secret
I leave my temple for the deep forest
lay my robes on a bed of grass
sun dappling skin
arms outstretched, hips loose
waiting for a man born of mother earth
rolling to one side, my arm a pillow
through half-lidded eyes I see him appear
from the shadows of ferns and vines
I’ve been waiting for you, [...]

100 words: The Power of the Numb Mind

The power of the numb mind
All the apartment dwellers went numb,
capable only of a faint caw, like a blackbird.
Everyone conveyed thought by firing off
gamma brain waves that began as haimish
internal vibrations, but turned as stringy as munj.
Keening, alone in a home turned jail cell,
many wondered how a man or woman,
on a crystal morning, [...]

100 words for February

I finished another batch of 100 words for the eponymous web site. A complete batch consists of a 100-word entry for each day of the month.
Again, I wrote about my dreams. The only two that aren’t dreams are numbers 2 and 11. Two is a short story idea, and eleven is the collaborative poem [...]

Lunar eclipse: 100 words

Total Lunar Eclipse February 20, 2008

My two sons and I went to the front yard on Wednesday night to watch the lunar eclipse. Near ten o’clock we could see the moon glowing in a pulsating sphere of topaz. Clouds streaked across the sky, but we could still sense the radiating light.
Freeboarder said, “That’s epic!”
Philosopher [...]

100 Words

In case you missed some of my funky dreams, recorded in exactly 100 words, here’s a link to the batch for January. Most of them I posted here, but not all. There’s something interesting about seeing all 31 stories lined down the page.
I’m continuing the practice of 100-words this month too, but I’m not posting [...]

Dream 19: 100 words on hairy mammals

Hairy mammals
I’m on a journey whose destination is unknown.
Walking along a channel of pasture.
An embankment blocks my view to the left.
In the distance dark mountains.
Furry cows, bulls, bison, and hogs appear ahead.
Afraid to pass them, I stare,
but keep trekking.
The animals turn their heads to watch me,
grazing as I leave them behind.
Walking alone.
Suddenly I’m [...]

100 words: Where’d he go?

Where’d he go?
Fishbait disappeared after eleven months of blogging, his site meter off the charts. Since his blog remained, the unanswered questions bottlenecked: “Dude, where are you?” and “FB, when you coming back?”
We loved him for his smooth editorials on fashion, history, Linux, and RSS feeds. Why did he vanish?
A rumor circulated that [...]

Dream 17: 100 words on no exit

Dream 17: 100 words on no exit
I’m trying to leave an underground parking garage in my car. Because orange cones block the exit lane, I’m forced to go down the entrance lane. I need to return to a school to pick up my friend, but I’m not sure how to get there since the [...]

100 words:mom talk

Mom talk
She stood in my foyer, her belly trussed up under a striped knit top. Her hair perched on her head, curls spray painted in place.
“We don’t believe in evolution,” she said.
I gave her a Mona Lisa smile while holding the door, wondering if she was scanning my table for bibles.
Her son thumped downstairs [...]

Dream 17: 100 words on going back

Dream 17: 100 words on going back
I’m visiting Arlington Heights, my childhood town. My elementary school is dirty and neglected, the desks overturned and scattered. Teachers’ names from thirty years ago hang crooked above the doors.
“They must be ancient by now. How could they still teach here?”
I meet [...]
